November 2008 Booster Minutes

Attendance: Sandy Sherman, Valerie McNamara, Betsy Hoehl, Lisa Cray, Ed Hockenbury, Betsy Weischedel, Cheryl Collins, Terri Dion, Dawn Grenn, Ira Isham, Nancy McSoley, Laurie Valley.

Ira Isham, wrestling coach, requested funding for a new scale. Their current scale is about 8 years old and is in frequent need of recalibration. This requires lifting heavy weights onto the scale. The scale is used for all meets and tournaments and must be accurate. The cost of the new scale, which will recalibrate itself, is $658.95.

We had tabled the request for $2,500 for the strength and conditioning coaches. We will discuss this again when we vote at the end of the meeting. Ed indicated this is not critical if we feel we do not have enough money this year.

The Division II football championship will be held at Essex on Friday, November 7. We still need 9 people to work concession stand. There was a leak discovered in the water pipe that supplies the concession stand and the water had to be turned off. (Afternote: A hose was run so that the concession stand had water on 11/7.)

Treasurer's Report:
Our current balance is around $12,400. We spent close to $7,000 on new clothing items this fall and these will be sold throughout the remainder of the year, adding cash to our account. Deposits are running a little lower than last year. We had only 4 home football games this year instead of 5 and Catamount brought in about $1,425 as opposed to $3,000 last year due to the decrease in the number of participants.

Ed's Report:

• We will host the state wrestling championship the second weekend of winter break.
• The cross country teams are sending 9 athletes each to New Englands and are requesting the $50 per athlete to help defray hotel costs.($900)
• Meet the coaches night for winter sports is Tuesday, December 2nd in the cafeteria. The boosters meeting will be at 5pm, meet the coaches is at 6:30, and the individual team meetings will follow.
• Captains training for the fall went well.
• The girls' varsity soccer team received a sportsmanship award from the Northern Vermont Officials Association.

VOTES:

• Tabled the request for $2,500 for strength and conditioning funds.
• Approved $50 each for 18 boys and girls cross country athletes going to New Englands.($900)
• Approved $658.95 for the new wrestling scale.
